Announcing Our "Seed" Farm Lunch Program
Wish you could have a day off from making your child’s lunch? We are excited to announce our new project:
Farm Lunch Friday.
Farm Lunch Friday is a “seed” initiative growing out of our developing farm program. Our ultimate dream is to offer regular farm-based, cooked-from-scratch, organic lunches on a regular basis here at SBS. While we work on developing our kitchen space to make this possible, we will begin with something simple and delicious: a farm-fresh salad-based lunches. The response from the school community towards these initial farm-lunches will help us to determine if a more ambitious lunch program is indeed possible, and financially sustainable. Please read on for information about the lunches, and how to purchase one for your child.
About The Food
Ingredients: All the ingredients we will use in our lunches will be fresh, organic, non-GMO and locally produced. Menus will be focused primarily around our most “local” ingredients of all: fruit and vegetables our students grow and harvest from their own school farm!
Zero Waste. Really, Truly!
Absolutely no consumable products (compostable or otherwise) will be used in serving our lunches; no compostable spoons, bowls, plates or cups. Students are asked to do what they always do: bring their own reusable plate or bowl & napkin from home, which they will then bring home to be washed afterwards. We recommend an 8-9 inch plate. All food scraps will be composted on our school farm, or through the Napa County Recycling program.
